In Erfoud you can enjoy a fantastic view of the Ziz river valley lined with thousands of date palms. Now we are almost at the dunes! Day 2: Erg Chebbi Dunes of Merzouga
After breakfast, we drive in 4×4 to explore the desert region of Merzouga: visit the villager of Khamlia and enjoy their music and dance; Cross the desert plateaus and visit a Berber family in his tent for lunch. You can learn how they live in their tents with their goats.
Then we take a 4×4 gravel road to Lake Merzouga, which seems seasonal from November to May when it rains in the Middle Atlas. It is the best place to observe desert birds and sometimes even flamingos. After returning to your lodge, you will experience an hour-long camel ride to the desert camp in the middle of the great dunes that reach up to 160 m at sunset. Enjoy your dinner in a Berber tent, look for shooting stars at the campfire and sleep in a nomad tent!
Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorges – Dades Gorges
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the sahara before enjoying your typical breakfast. If you wish, you can catch a board and try sandboarding after climbing a large dune next to the camp. We return by camel or 4×4 to the desert pavilion where a beautiful shower awaits us. In Rissani, we will have the opportunity to visit the local market with the “donkey parking” and see some fossils outside the city.
After the lunch break, we will follow the road along the river to Todra Gorge, where you can make a short hike but spectacular between rock faces up to 300 m high. Before arriving at our Riad for the night in the Dades Valley, we head to Boumalne Dades where you can make beautiful pictures of special rock formations that look like monkey hands.
